  • Comfort learning and managing multiple digital platforms (training provided for Pencil Spaces, Bloomerang, Google Business Suite, and Canva)

  • Problem-solving mindset: Able to anticipate issues and troubleshoot independently without waiting to be asked

  • Strong written and oral communication skills: This includes tutor-facing correspondence as well as internal communications

  • Comfort with data tracking and reporting, and following up with colleagues on deadlines in a collaborative, supportive way

  • Interest in identifying and implementing process improvements, including using technology in creative ways to automate systems and improve effectiveness

  • Experience with recruitment, volunteer coordination, donor databases, or nonprofit administration is a plus, but not required

Bilingual or multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply (e.g., Spanish, or other languages reflective of our communities).

Part-Time Student Success Coordinator at 6-10 hours/week per site
Augustine Literacy Project – Durham, NC (Hybrid Role)

About Us
The Augustine Literacy Project - Triangle (www.alptriangle.org) works to advance reading proficiency and educational equity for young learners across the Triangle. Our culturally responsive, community-rooted programming centers literacy as a tool for empowerment. We are a small, committed team with a big vision!

Position Overview
We’re seeking a Student Success Coordinator to support the implementation of literacy interventions by monitoring student progress as volunteer tutors deliver the ALP curriculum, while also ensuring smooth site operations.

About the Role

Currently, ALP Triangle is providing one-on-one literacy instruction for students who are a year or more behind in first- or second-grade assessment benchmarks in decoding, encoding, and basic phonological awareness, and who would not otherwise have access to 1-1 tutoring in foundational literacy skills. Our tutors provide free, long-term, one-on-one instruction using research-based methodology.

To ensure high-quality tutoring sessions and a positive experience for volunteers and school staff, ALP provides a Student Success Coordinator for each school site. The Student Success Coordinator is present at their assigned school(s) during tutoring sessions and monitors tutor-student interactions. The coordinator also serves as ALP's liaison to the school, streamlining communication with teachers and managing volunteers.

Full training is provided on our curriculum and the digital platform we use!.

Desired Skills and Background

A successful Student Success Coordinator will have most or all of the following:

  • A belief that all students can learn

  • Familiarity with foundational literacy concepts (decoding, encoding, phonological awareness). This can come from a degree in education, classroom or tutoring experience, Orton-Gillingham (OG) certification, or the training we provide

  • Ability to work effectively with adult learners who are volunteer tutors

  • Experience working in a school setting with limited resources; flexibility and adaptability are key

  • Ability to reflect on practice and student data outcomes to improve outcomes

  • Strong interpersonal skills, particularly listening, providing constructive feedback, and empathy

  • Comfort learning new digital platforms (training provided for Pencil Spaces, Zoom, and other tools used in the role).

Bilingual or multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply (e.g., Spanish, or other languages reflective of our communities).

Compensation
$25/hr

What We Offer

  • Hybrid remote/in-person work based at one or more of our partner schools and remote location of choice, with the exception of monthly in-person meetings at our vibrant co-working space in downtown Durham
