A Child Needs You

The statistics are alarming. An estimated 25 million children nationwide struggle to read proficiently. This affects their academic performance across multiple subject areas and can be devastating to their self-esteem. Children who cannot read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma, placing them at greater risk for long-term economic hardship.

The problem isn’t that there aren’t effective reading programs out there. The challenge is access. High-quality, science-based literacy instruction is often expensive.

We envision a community where all children can learn to read, regardless of income level.

Augustine Literacy Project — Triangle’s mission is to train, place, and support tutors at partner schools to deliver free, one-to-one, science-based literacy instruction to students who need additional support.

But it takes a community to raise a reader. If you believe every child deserves the opportunity to become a confident reader, we invite you to partner with us in our mission to help more children at elementary schools across the Triangle learn to read.

Whether you become a volunteer reading tutor, make a monthly gift, or serve on our Board of Directors, you can change the course of a child’s life.

A child needs you today.

Children who are not proficient in reading by third grade are at disproportionate risk of subsequently dropping out of school. As adults, they are more likely to be unemployed or employed in low-paying jobs.
